Bangkok, 23 May 2024 – Viña Concha y Toro, renowned as Latin America’s leading wine producer, has enchanted wine enthusiasts with an exclusive launch event ‘Jewels of the New World.’ This prestigious evening showcased a curated selection of fine wines from Viña Concha y Toro's portfolio, alongside insights from Isabel Mitarakis, a prominent figure closely tied to the history and development of the Chilean wine industry.
The ‘Jewels of the New World’ concept, introduced by Viña Concha y Toro, represents a pioneering approach to wine appreciation, intertwining the worlds of viticulture and luxury. Each wine featured in the collection is meticulously paired with a precious gemstone native to the Americas, celebrating the natural wonders of the land and the craftsmanship of winemaking. This unique concept not only highlights the exceptional quality of the wines but also adds a layer of depth and intrigue to the tasting experience.
The highlight of this event was the presence of Isabel Mitarakis, a member of the Guilisasti family, who brings with her a wealth of experience and expertise in winemaking. Having grown up surrounded by vineyards and possessing a profound understanding of terroir, Isabel embarked on a journey to study agricultural engineering, specializing in oenology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Her career trajectory led her to work along side renowned winemakers across the globe, including stints in Italy, California, and France.
Joining Viña Concha y Toro in 2011, Isabel Mitarakis quickly rose through the ranks, eventually becoming the head winemaker for the prestigious Gravas del Maipo line. Her passion for CabernetSauvignon and her keen understanding of soils and terroir have been instrumental in positioning the brand in the high-end segment, garnering accolades from the global wine community. Isabel Mitarakis currently plays a significant role in the company’s winemaking area and in the Chileanand Asian markets. She also oversees the production of the high-end wine Conchay Toro The Master, along with Concha y Toro’s Technical Director, Marcelo Papa.
Isabel Mitarakis offered guests an exclusive glimpse into the world of fine winemaking. The evening commenced with a welcome speech by Mr. Gan Seng Tuan, Managing Director at Independent Wine &Spirit (Thailand) Co., Ltd., followed by an introduction to the JewelsConcept and the first wine presentation by Isabel Mitarakis herself.
Guests then embarked on a culinary journey, guided by Isabel Mitarakis, as she introduced the luxury wines and shared insights about each one paired with exquisite courses throughout the evening. The curated collection of fine wines from exquisite terroirs in Chile included Terrunyo Sauvignon Blanc 2021, paired with an Oyster Duo Nature, and Condiments on the Side; Amelia Chardonnay 2022, paired with a Stewed Snail Risotto, Red Wine Reduction, and Salsa Verde; Concha y Toro Master Edition 2020 and Terrunyo Cabernet Sauvignon 2019, paired with Braised Iberico Pork Cheek, Young Potato, Truffle Fondue, Marques de Casa Concha Heritage 2020, paired with Wagyu Ox Tongue, in a Wild Mushroom Cream Sauce; and Don Melchor 2020, paired with Short Ribs, Red Wine Glaze, Garlic and Cheese Mashed Potato “Aligot”. The gastronomical delights from the District Grill Room & Bar at Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit concluded with Petit-Fours and Coffee or Tea.
The event culminated with a closing speech from Isabel Mitarakis, offering attendees a unique opportunity to engage with one of the leading figures in the wine industry.
